What's This All About?

My best friend once told me that I have a habit of starting something and being absolutely engulfed with it. I would obsess over it, make it "my thing." And then after some time, maybe a few weeks, even a month, I would get over it and jump right onto the next "thing." Once she mentioned that, I became a little more cautious of things I wanted to do. I picked titles very carefully before deciding to open the book and start reading. I would hold off on starting a project, thinking I wouldn't be into it soon enough anyway - So what was the point?

Then I listened to this podcast on the way home: Optimal Living Daily. It's probably the only podcast I listen to. The host, Justin, reads blogs and book excerpts that all focus around the theme of improving everyday life. In this particular episode, Justin read "This is a Really Weird Thing That People Do" by Ramit Sethi. Ramit writes about how people who are hungry for more should stay hungry and not listen to the bullshit that others say to be satisfied with your life.

I think there's a fine line - I try to live in between "Accepting What Is" and "Striving for More." I want to be a total badass, but I also understand that part of being a badass is accepting what I can't necessarily control.

There are so many things I want to do with my life. Off the top of my head I can already think of a few: practice more yoga and mindfulness, practice writing so I can be better at it, and reading more. Oh and continuing to make progress on my fitness journey.

From now on, when ever I try to hold myself back because I immediately think about my not-so-healthy cycle of doing something and then dropping it so quickly, I'll ask myself, "Do I want to commit to this goal? What kind of commitment does this goal entail? Do I even have the means to accomplishing what is needed to reach this goal?"

I know by asking myself those questions, I'll be able to really dig into what is important to me and what isn't.

Are you hungry for more?
